Cylinder Head Porting

Cylinder Head Porting & R&D

Cylinder Head Services

Every cylinder head that leaves Race Engine Systems is custom. No production heads are shipped without flow bench testing, inspection, and adjustment. That's not a policy — it's how Craig has operated since his days developing cylinder head technology at Alan Johnson Performance.

Flow Bench Testing — Not an Option

RES uses a Superflow 600 Flow Bench calibrated by Harold Bettis, paired with a Brzezinski flow stand with slider plates for accurate cylinder-to-cylinder testing. Computer aids include an Audie Technologies Swirl Meter. Pitot tubes are used for air speed mapping.

That level of instrumentation isn't standard in most shops. At RES, it's the baseline for every set of heads that goes out the door.

Cylinder Head R&D

Craig's cylinder head R&D work includes hands-on development alongside industry names including Alan Johnson Performance. The result is porting work informed by real-world testing data — not catalog specs. CAD tools are used to profile port geometry, and every change is verified on the flow bench before it goes on an engine.

Whether you're running BBC, SBC, or LS cylinder heads, every head is built around your specific combination, power adder, and RPM target. Custom cylinder head work is not one-size-fits-all. At RES, it never is.

Complete Cylinder Head Services

RES handles cylinder head porting, valve work, seat cutting, spring installation, and flow testing. Performance cylinder heads can be built to accompany a complete RES engine build or supplied as a standalone cylinder head porting service for your existing combination.

Every set of heads is flow tested before delivery. If it doesn't flow to spec, it doesn't ship.
