Camshaft Design

Camshaft Spec & Design

Camshaft Services

Off-the-shelf camshafts are designed for a range of applications. A Race Engine Systems cam is designed for one: yours. Every custom camshaft is specified around your combination and finish-ground on a Landis CNC Cam Grinder.

Custom Lobe Profile Design

Craig designs each camshaft with specific lobe profiles based on the application — displacement, compression ratio, cylinder head flow characteristics, induction system, power adder, RPM target, and class rules all factor into the spec.

Generic duration and lift numbers don't tell the full story. Lobe separation angle, velocity profile, and rate of lift are where the gains are found. A custom cam grind from RES reflects those variables — not a catalog lookup.

CNC Ground and Verified

All RES custom camshafts are finish-ground on a Landis CNC Cam Grinder and inspected with Andrews EZ CAM Software to verify accuracy against the design spec. Every cam is documented before it ships — you get confirmation of what was ground, not just what was ordered.

Camshaft and Cylinder Head Coordination

A camshaft spec that doesn't account for the cylinder head it's working with is leaving power on the table. RES cylinder head porting work and camshaft design are developed in coordination. If Craig built or flowed your heads, the camshaft spec benefits from that data directly.

That coordination is one of the reasons RES engines produce consistent, repeatable power — not just peak dyno numbers.
